From the Outside In
We are going to start this guide with suggestions for packing outerwear, usually the bulkiest items of clothing, but in this case, not taking up so much space. Even at Christmas and New Year’s, it rarely gets all that cold in Port Aransas, with the highs topping out in the low 70s and the lows dropping to the mid-50s, so leave your Snoopy puffy jacket behind and carry a lightweight jacket which can always be used as a blanket or pillow on the plane. November and December are our drier months, but it may rain a little, so if the jacket is waterproof or even water resistant, all the better. Gloves, winter hats, and boots are NOT necessary, but you may want to pack (or wear) a comfortable pair of walking shoes, but flip flops and sandals will be the shoes you wear most often.
Beach Weather?
Although it is definitely going to be warmer during your Texas holiday visit, you probably won’t be swimming, but that doesn’t mean you should leave your swimsuit behind. Our Sandcastle Condominium community is proud to offer not one but two separate hot tubs as part of our community amenities! We would hate for you to miss out on some soaking and savoring time, so of course, you can always purchase a new suit in one of our beach stores, but planning ahead and packing the one you already own can save you money.
Also, hats, sunglasses, and even sunscreen will help protect skin and eyes against sun that is still bright, even this late in the year. Many of our condos will also provide beach chairs, towels, and umbrellas if you do want to hang out at the beach, because we know that even if you won’t be swimming, there is nothing more peaceful and rewarding than enjoying a Christmas day on the beach as the surf roars and the sun shines.
Keep It Casual
There are some places you will visit during the holidays where dressing fancy is common, but Port Aransas is not one of those places. Our favorite way to drive around town is in a golf cart, and who wouldn’t look ridiculous dressed in a tux while driving? Shorts, tee shirts, jeans—all of the above are going to be your most common method of dress, so relax and be comfortable during your holiday adventures.
You may want to pack some nicer outfits if you are planning on a nice dinner at Tortuga’s Saltwater Grill, which just so happens to offer a prix-fixe formal dinner for New Year’s Eve, but you can leave the tux and formal evening gown at home! At Christmas, the holiday events and activities we offer are all mostly casual, so feel free to pack your favorite ugly Christmas sweater for nighttime events or Christmas t-shirts for daytime ones.
