Ready to see more of the Texas coast? These five Port Aransas trips combine beaches, wildlife, museums, and coastal towns within driving distance of Port Aransas. These destinations also give families, couples, and groups more places to go in Port Aransas and across the surrounding Coastal Bend.
Discover Wildlife and Untouched Beaches at Padre Island National Seashore
Allow about an hour to reach Padre Island National Seashore. The park protects 66 miles of shoreline, dunes, tidal flats, and coastal prairie. Start at Malaquite Visitor Center for exhibits and beach access, then look for shorebirds, shells, and tracks along the sand.
Four-wheel drive is recommended beyond the first five miles of South Beach. Check tides and beach conditions before driving. Our beachfront rentals provide a comfortable starting point for an early departure.

Spend the Day Exploring Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi offers museums, waterfront views, and restaurants about 45 minutes from Port Aransas, depending on ferry traffic. Tour the USS Lexington to see the flight deck, aircraft displays, Pearl Harbor exhibit, and narrow passageways inside the carrier. Admission includes the 3D theater.
The ship involves stairs and ladders, although the hangar deck and flight deck are accessible. North Beach also places visitors near dining and other attractions. Our two-bedroom condos work well for families planning a day in the city.

Experience Small-Town Coastal Charm in Rockport
Rockport sits about 40 minutes away when ferry traffic is moving. Rockport Beach has shallow water, public restrooms, picnic areas, and an 800-foot fishing pier. Downtown Rockport is nearby for galleries, locally owned shops, and seafood after the beach.
Families can use the playground or follow the shoreline for birding and bay views. Stop downtown before leaving to browse art, gifts, and coastal home decor. Pack sunscreen and water.
Visit Aransas National Wildlife Refuge
Set aside most of the day for Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, located roughly 75 minutes from Port Aransas. The 16-mile auto tour passes coastal prairie, oak woodland, and marsh habitat. Observation towers and trails provide opportunities to see deer, alligators, hawks, and javelinas. Winter visitors may also spot endangered whooping cranes.
Bring binoculars, water, and lunch because services are limited. Families staying in our three-bedroom condos can pack the kitchen and leave together in one vehicle.

Explore More of Mustang Island Beyond Port Aransas
You do not have to leave Mustang Island for a different stretch of coast. Drive about 20 minutes south for a quieter shoreline, paddling access, and birding away from town.
Mustang Island State Park covers more than five miles of coastline where visitors can swim, fish, picnic, kayak, and search for shells. Three paddling trail segments follow the island’s western shoreline through shallow fishing areas. Spring and fall migration also bring more birds through the park. Reservations are recommended during spring and summer because the park may reach capacity.
