August is officially the hottest month of the year, and as such, we locals try to spend the month finding ways to relax, stay cool, and not exert too much energy! Don’t get us wrong, we love the month of August, and we know that you too will love all that you can see and do in Port Aransas, especially when you get to come home to our Sandcastle Condominiums every night of your stay. To make your summer even sweeter, however, we have created this guide to how the locals enjoy Port Aransas in August, giving you a behind the scenes glimpse into what you can expect from your vacation in our Texas paradise.

We Swim at Night
There really is no better way to cool your core body temperature than with a nighttime swim, and the community pool at Sandcastle generally closes around 9 or 10 PM, giving you plenty of time to get a nighttime swim under your belt. If you are in town on August 8th, however, you might want to skip your condo swim party and head to the community pool at Roberts Point Park for their Glow Swim Party that runs from 7PM until 10PM. (Early registration is suggested) Admission is free, and the Parks and Rec team adds some extra shine to your nighttime swim with glow sticks and toys lighting up the water! Pizza and ice cream will be offered at this August party, and kids 14 and under must be accompanied by adults.
We Get Our Beach On Early in the Day
We love the beach as much as the tourists do, but we know that the secret to successful beaching in August is to arrive early and head home by noon. Additionally, we like to take the ferry over to San Jose Island for our beach days, because it is more private, less crowded, and really great for shell seekers! The island is privately owned, so we (and you) are only allowed to explore the beach below the mean tide line (and go no further), and there are no amenities (restrooms, stores, restaurants), so be sure to bring in everything you need.
We Get Around Town Via Golf Carts
It’s just so much more fun exploring the area by golf cart, and when the sea breezes are mussing your hair and you are able to drive right up to the beach instead of fighting for parking as you would in a car, you will understand the reasons why we go golf cart. And although there are plenty of places to rent golf carts from in Port A, we think you will have even more fun if you choose Brons Backyard to do so. Renting golf carts year round and offering live music every night in the summer, a pub grub menu filled with tasty delights, and a party atmosphere that will make you happy you chose Port Aransas for your vacation destination.
We Eat a Lot of Seafood
When you’re surrounded by the Gulf, you have to expect that seafood will be a delicacy, and your expectations will be exceeded when you stop in for a seafood dinner at any of our local restaurants, including Virgina’s on the Bay. Located at 815 Trout Street, Virginia’s is a special occasion seafood restaurant offering dockside dining that will charm, but it is priced a little higher than most restaurants in Port Aransas. We don’t think you will mind the extra pennies, though, when you take your first bite of their Cajun Shrimp Dump, or even better, the fish you caught that morning while fishing off the jetties! This wonderful seafood restaurant offers a BYOF option (bring your own fish) that you must clean and filet, but they will cook it to order, allowing everyone to taste your mad skills!
And We Hang Out at Home (A LOT)
Summer days are meant for laziness, and because your Sandcastle Condominiums summer sanctuary is full of amenities, you can be lazy as home as well! Air conditioning combined with ceiling fans and soft sofas will ensure that your naps will be refreshing ones, and supersized state of the art televisions will offer movie theater experiences that you can enjoy without leaving the comfort of your couch. Sit out on balconies that overlook the sea, watching the sun rise while sipping mimosas or the sun set while sipping Chardonnay.
