The days right before the major holidays are often the best time to visit popular vacation destinations, offering a quieter vibe, less expensive air tickets, lodging, and attractions, and in Port Aransas, less crowded beaches. Right now, as you read this, it is the off season in Port A, and it can be easier to explore all our town has to offer, but just remember that once the holidays begin, everything changes back. Today, we at Sandcastle Condominiums invite you to choose our Texas sanctuaries as you explore Port Aransas things to see and do in the following five ways!

Explore Port A by Sea with These Water Activities

The weather is absolutely perfect this time of year and you may want to spend as much of your time in town on the water and of course there are a large number of ways to do just that. Dolphin Cruises are the first most popular way, with knowledgeable guides taking visitors out to our local dolphin’s playgrounds and Dolphin Watch Adventures is one of the longest running and most trusted tour companies in the area. Another popular activity is fishing, and anglers can choose to fish from the shore or hire a charter, often choosing Deep Sea Headquarters for their deep sea fishing needs.

Take a Tour of History

The best way to get an authentic picture of the town you are visiting is by taking a peek into its past, and the Port Aransas Museum, located at 400 N Allister, does a deep dive into our history. Another adventure with roots in our past would be a visit to the Farley Boat Works, located at 716 W Avenue C, a wood boat building company that has been an integral part of Port A since they first opened their doors back in 1914. Today, they still build those beautiful seaworthy boats, and they also offer classes, If you’re visiting during October 24th through 26th, our Port Aransas Wooden Boat Festival should definitely be explored, giving greater insight into how wood really is a good boat material and that the boats are truly works of art.

Nature at Its Finest

Although the sea and our sandy beaches are probably the top draws to this part of Texas, our natural landscape and conservation efforts offer some of the best scenic attractions in the state. Our island home is located in what is called the Central Flyway, offering a birdwatcher’s paradise at places like the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center, the Port Aransas Nature Preserve at Charlie’s Pasture, and Wetland Par. These spots are ideal for watching our winged friends, as well as offering safe habitat to a variety of other wildlife that you may be able to see as well!

Get a Head Start on Your Christmas Shopping

We have friends that start buying Christmas presents for their friends and family almost as soon as the last decoration from the previous year has been packed away and although we think that is definitely going overboard, it doesn’t hurt to start shopping now during your pre-holiday visit. The shops of Port A are already starting to put their holiday merchandise out on display and if you don’t visit Gratitude, Boutique Bella Bella, and/or the 3rd Coast Shack, you will be missing out on a shopping adventure that will make your friends and family so thrilled to receive the gift you purchased while there. And because we know that that it is the thought that counts, we can assure you that your gift recipients will be even more thrilled that you thought of them while traveling!

Exploring Port Aransas from Behind the Wheel of a Golf Cart

The second thing you may notice when you arrive (the beach being the first) is that nearly everyone gets around via golf cart. It is a traditional beach town method of transportation, offering fun and fresh air to your vacation experience. There are many places you can rent a golf cart, if this is an adventure that interests you. Kacie’s Beach Carts offers luxury vehicles that will take your vacation to the next level of perfection. Bron’s Backyard also rents golf carts, and if you are here during the summer months, they also offer live music, a kitchen serving fantastic food, and a collection of yard games that will help you fill in any empty spaces in your vacation itinerary!
