Bron’s Backyard, 314 E Avenue G

The first thing you may notice when your Texas trip of a lifetime begins is that most people like to use golf carts to get around Port A, and you too can soon be driving your own golf cart, rented at Bron’s Backyard, and giving your child the first thrill of the day. But don’t stop at just renting the cart, in the summers, this is the most popular spot in town, offering delicious food, live entertainment, and a large selection of outdoor games that the entire family can play. Slurp down a snow cone while playing Jenga, cornhole, hula hoop, or lose yourself in the magic of the video games offered. While the music plays, the sun shines, and the snow cone melts into a sticky mess, this casual hot spot will make your most beloved memories!

Learn to Build a Sandcastle

Yes, building a sandcastle appears to be a simple job but as you and your children frolic on the beaches of Port A, you may soon discover that you lack the architectural skills necessary for building a proper one. Fortunately, there are skills that can learned when you sign up for sandcastle lessons with Sandrum.com, taught by the Port A Sandcastle guy! Teaching you how to build the prettiest and sturdiest sandcastles on the beach, your kids will be fascinated and may want to build new ones every day. And when you think about the fact that they are actually asking to spend more time with you, doesn’t that make it all worthwhile?

Learn to Surf

The waves are calling, my friend, and if you don’t rent a board and hang ten with the best of them, will you regret it forever? Maybe not, but your children will never let you live it down, because they want to learn to surf as well! Texas Surf Camps, located at 230 on the Beach Drive in IB McGee Beach Park, offers lessons for all skill levels and if you join in the fun, it will be another vacation experience you can share with your children, reveling in the time you spend together, knowing that these days of closeness and togetherness will not last forever as they grow up, move out, and start having their own family vacations sooner than you will be ready!

USS Lexington Museum, 2914 N Shoreline Boulevard in Corpus Christi

This next adventure involves a short road trip to the town of Corpus Christi, but when you and your kiddos are standing on the concrete next to a massive air carrier, we think you will be ok with the drive! The USS Lexington Museum is an actual WWII aircraft carrier recommissioned as a museum and offering flight simulators, real aircraft, and a chance to explore the exciting world of big ships! Tickets range in cost between $14.95 and $20.95 and there are often special events that guests can participate in, so be sure to keep an eye out on that!

Red Dragon Pirate Cruise, 440 W Cotter Avenue

This next adventure takes you and your family aboard an authentic reproduction of a pirate’s ship, engaging in cannon fire, friendly battles, and the hunt for pirate’s treasure, offering a couple of hours of pure magic and whimsy for everyone involved. Offering an onboard snack bar that does sell rum drinks for the older pirates in your group, there are also sometimes adults only adventures that take place, but that can be something you enjoy later, perhaps on a return romantic visit with your favorite traveling partner!
