You came to Port A for Texas warmth, fun, and the sand and water at the beach along the Gulf of Mexico. There is an array of indoor and outdoor activities, as well as year-round activities and special events throughout the year for you to experience. Plan your trip around a favorite event or check the Port Aransas events calendar when your vacation draws closer to see what’s happening while you’ll be here.
Port A Shop Around
The event takes place each season, so you may have an opportunity to include it in your plans no matter what season you come stay with us. The springtime version of the event is better known as the Spring Fling Shop Around. There is another event in the fall, and the final event comes around the winter holiday shopping season.
The Spring Fling Shop Around is scheduled for April 12-14, 2024. Check the Port Aransas website to see if one of the events will be happening during your trip, as later events are still in the planning phases.
Texas SandFest
Billed as the largest beach sand sculpture competition in the U.S., it takes place annually on the shores of Port A. Professional and semi pro sculpturists mold tons of sand into intricate castles, sculptures, and even replicas of landmarks from around the world! There will also be food, fun, shopping, live music, and much more to enjoy.
The 2024 event takes place April 19-21. Check out the event website for more information and to buy tickets.
Fourth of July Fireworks Extravaganza
Celebrate American independence during your visit to Port A this year. Come around the 4th of July holiday and experience water, sun, fun, sand, and fireworks. Leading up to the main event, you can take part in family-friendly activities along Port Aransas Beach, including live music, food vendors, beach games, and more. The fireworks show is typically scheduled for 9 p.m., weather permitting. More details will be available as planning continues for the 2024 event.
88th Deep Sea Roundup
Come join the oldest fishing tournament on the Texas coast. Registration is currently open for both adult and junior events. Registration, tournament rules, and other information is available on the tournament website.
The 2024 tournament takes place July 11-14.
Texas Legends Billfish Tournament
Port A is the fishing capital of Texas. Due to that unofficial title, many of the state’s fishing tournaments take place in our waters. Navigate the water and cast a line in search of blue marlin, billfish, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, dolphin, and more to win big in various categories.
The 2024 event is scheduled for August 7-11. More information, including registration and a schedule of events, is available at the Texas Legends website.
Flynn’s Beach Run
Challenge yourself to a 10k, opt for the 5k, or bring the family for a one-mile fun run. The event takes place right on the beach in Port A. All races typically start at 8 a.m. on race day and start and finish at Horace Caldwell Pier, just moments from your rental at Sandcastle Condos! Proceeds from all registration fees go to support sustainability efforts in Port A and may benefit others as well.
The race is part of “Beachtober,” but the typically October date has not yet been set for 2024. Watch the Port Aransas website for information on when registration opens, and other race details.
Port A Live Music Weekend
Another way we celebrate Beachtober in October is with live music. Local and regional musicians come to serenade and entertain you at various venues across town. The event is still in the planning stages, and announcements about scheduled talent will be made closer to the event.
Taco and Margarita Trail
Blaze a yummy trail during Beachtober this October. Port A has a number of restaurants serving this delicious dish. Check out the many bars and restaurants offering the fare and plot a course for a deliciously good time. Come anytime in the month of October for great deals on the combo at all participating restaurants.
Sweet Traditions Dessert Trail
Once you’ve filled up on tacos and margaritas, finish it off with something to satisfy your sweet tooth. Some of the restaurants where you sampled margaritas and tacos, along with several others, will be offering delicious sweet treats. A list of participating restaurants will be available on the Port A website, so you can plot your taste bud tour. Any dessert deals will be available all October long.
Wooden Boat Festival
The Farley family of boat-builders has been building tarpon fishing boats in Port A since 1914! It officially launched its first vessel off the shores of Port A in 1915. They were crafted primarily of wood along with other necessary materials.
Today, we celebrate these original boats, as well as many other types of wooden vessels. The three-day event takes place annually and will be celebrating 10 years of fun in 2024. The boat show features handcrafted kayaks, paddleboards, skiffs, sailing boats, and other wooden vessels, including historic Farley boats. The celebration takes place in October but is not part of Beachtober.
Harvest Moon Regatta
It’s one of the best sailing races along the Texas Gulf Coast. Racers start in Galveston and plot a course through offshore waters that ends in Port A. We throw a big party when the sailors arrive! You can find more information about the race and its activities in Port A on the race website.
The race usually starts mid-October, but the 2024 race is still in the planning stages.
Lighted Boat Parade
Celebrate the holidays on the water. While other locales may have to confine the celebration to land, Port A takes to the sea. Boats decorated in their holiday best will be cruising a set route around the area. The best viewing can typically be found anywhere on the marina as well as from Robert’s Point Park.
If you brought your own vessel with you, or you’re renting one for the duration of your stay, get in the spirit, decorate, and join the parade! It is typically held in early December, and registration is available through the Port Aransas website closer to the event. A date has not yet been set for the 2024 parade.
Holiday Golf Cart Parade
Watch a land-based parade, too. Typically starting at The Gaff on Beach Street, the golf cart parade features golf carts decked out in their holiday best, just like the boats. Santa may be making a visit as well! The 2024 parade is still in the planning stage.
