The City of Port Aransas, as well as local businesses have made it possible for all Port Aransas visitors to enjoy our island retreat.
Beaches
The thing that attracted you to Port A for your vacation: the beach. For wheelchair-bound visitors, the City of Port Aransas provides a Mobile Beach chair featuring wide, reinforced tires for an easy glide across the sand. Please make a reservation ahead of time. Currently, the city only has one chair, but more are on the way. The chair can be rented in 48-hour increments. The individual beaches and parks may have some available too and can be checked out with park staff for the duration of your visit to the park.
Activities
If you’ve spent time in beach locations, you know there are a myriad of activities for visitors with and without disabilities. Head to Horace Caldwell Pier for some fishing. Several parks have paved trails wide enough for wheelchair access. The Port Aransas Nature Preserve consists of the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center, Wetland Park, Joan & Scott Holt Paradise Pond, and Charlie’s Pasture, all of which have wheelchair accessible boardwalks. An annual draw for the disabled community is the Make Promises Happen Surf Camp in the summer.
Accommodations
You’ll have no trouble finding accommodations that fit everyone’s needs. Spacious living areas are easily navigated no matter how you need to get around. The building has elevators, making it easy to get from one floor to the next. Our private beach access is a wood boardwalk wide enough for a wheelchair, too.
