You came to Port Aransas for Texas warmth, fun, and the sand and water at the beach along the Gulf of Mexico. While most of your journey may be about rest and relaxation, the adventure seeker in you will want to pack the schedule with fun Port Aransas adventures and activities that will keep you busy every day of your trip.
Day 1: Parasailing
Go up, up, and away! Take off from the deck of a specially designed and USCG-approved parasailing boat to fly high above the waters of the Gulf. Keep watch on the water from your bird’s eye view for dolphins, whales, fish, and other sea life. Bring your waterproof or disposable camera to capture the memories from your perspective. Fliers must be at least seven years old for most companies.
Day 2: Surf Camp
Many of the adventurous stuff to do in Port Aransas have to do with the water, and surfing is no exception. Learn how to catch the perfect wave on a traditional surfboard, windsurfing, or both. Professional instructors will take you from a land-based introduction to the board all the way up to catching your first wave and riding it back to shore. Many companies also rent gear outside of the lesson, so when you’re comfortable with your new skills, you can enjoy the adrenaline-pumping activity with just you and your friends.
Day 3: Undersea Adventures
Take the adventure below the water. Book a snorkeling or SCUBA diving tour of the water surrounding Port A. Plunge under the water to see a side of Port A and the Gulf of Mexico you won’t easily see from inside a tour boat. Ask about age restrictions before booking, and make sure to get SCUBA certified before you attempt a dive without a skilled instructor. Both types of tours provide all the necessary gear for a safe time on and under the water.
Day 4: Jet Skis
When you feel the need for speed and adventure you’ll have an adrenaline-pumping good time when you rent a jet ski and slice through the waters of the Gulf around Port A at top speed. Many of the companies that rent boats also rent jet skis for plenty of fast-paced water excitement. Charter a jet ski excursion or tour of the area so you want to get comfortable with the craft or see some of the best places around the island for your own exploration later. Anyone born after September 1, 1993 must acquire a Texas boating license before taking the helm of any vessel over 15 hp.
Day 5: Deep Sea Fishing
Charter a fishing tour to the deep waters of the Gulf. The adrenaline and excitement of a deep sea excursion is an adventure-seeking anglers can’t-miss experience on an adventure seeker’s journey to Port A. Cast a line in hopes of snagging bigger catch that swim in the deeper water, including kingfish, sailfish, marlin, tuna, and much more.
Day 6: Lighthouse Lakes Paddling Trails
Take a calming adventure. The trail was established in 1999 by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, is the first paddling trail on the Texas coast, and is located on North Harbor Island, nestled between Aransas Pass and Port Aransas. There are several launch points off State Highway 361. The area is named for the historic Lydia Ann Channel and is mostly shallow, perfect for a quiet and solitary paddle full of adventure along the coast. You’ll paddle through black mangroves that line the channels and the open flats, or “lakes.” The trail is made up of a series of four loops, with the shortest at 1.25 miles and the longest at 6.8 miles. Follow the signs painted with numbers corresponding to GPS coordinates, or download a map of the trails, as there are several places where a trail may split to offer a different experience each time.
Day 7: Skydiving
Go up over the water and land of Port A. The plane will continue to fly high, even after you and the instructor take your tandem skydiving jump over beautiful Mustang Island. You’ll freefall for just 45 seconds before landing gracefully with the parachute built for two. If you’re feeling “too old” for the experience, just remember former President Jimmy Carter was taking the plunge well into his 90s.
