Port Aransas is a four seasons vacation destination, one that offers many things to entice visitors to return again and again, and although there are activities that are strictly seasonal, there is also a long list of fun things to do no matter when you visit. With over 250 days of sunshine every year, even though it may be a bit too cold in the winter months to swim in the Gulf, it will be far warmer than much of the country, encouraging you and your family to get out and play. We at Sandcastle Condominiums have created this guide to the perfect year-round itinerary which will help you fill in the blanks on yours, giving you a peek into a vacation that will never let you down!
Beach Days Are Always a Good Idea
While it is true that you probably won’t be getting in the water during the winter months unless you hail from Antarctica or Alaska, we really believe that unless it is seriously raining, every day can be a beach day. Staking your claim on a section of sand, planting your beach umbrella into the earth in much the same way Buzz Aldren and Neil Armstrong planted the American flag on the moon after their first steps, is a time-honored tradition that travelers and residents have been doing for years, no matter what the season. Your beach activities may be limited to morning, evening, and moonlit strolls along sandy shores, but just being able to be there, witnessing the majesty of the sea as the Gulf roars and the tides ebb and flow will be enough to make you grateful for every second of your Texas trip of a lifetime!

Exploring the History of Port Aransas
We don’t take ourselves too seriously here in Port A, but our history does go back many centuries, perhaps starting out as sandbars emerging from the Gulf. Don’t worry, though, we don’t expect you to go back that far; it was actually pretty boring in those early days, and the history that may be of more interest to you is much closer in time to today.
The Port Aransas Museum, located at 408 Alister Street, explores our fascinating maritime history as well as giving a nod of appreciation to the Farley Boat Works, a wooden boat building company that is still in business today. Showing the history of the channel, the lighthouse, and the era known as the Tarpon era, which is called that in part due to the fact that we were named Tarpon for a while. The history of Port Aransas is engaging, and the Port Aransas Museum does an excellent job of showing off our roots!
Shopping Is an Everyday Adventure
Can you really consider you had a vacation if you don’t come back with souvenirs of some sort? We’re not embarrassed to admit that souvenir shopping while on vacation is one of our favorite pastimes, and the shops of Port Aransas are destined to make it yours as well.
Origins- Loving Coastal Living, 165 W Cotter Avenue, is certain to be your favorite gift shop, offering a stunning selection of souvenirs, house décor, even holiday décor if you happen to be visiting during Christmas. The Third Coast Shack, 626 Cut-Off Road, often garners great attention, selling jewelry, essential oils, and even tie dye clothing. Moby Dick’s Souvenir Shop, located at 517 S Alister Street, offers more typical souvenirs such as magnets, mugs, and tees.
These Restaurants Represent the Best of Port Aransas
Another wonderful vacation tradition is one that will bring your taste buds joy: conducting your own foodie tour of Port Aransas! Just as you will seek out tacos in Tucson, crepes in Paris, and pizza in Rome, you know that you must seek out seafood in Port A, and we can tell you that your search will be a fruitful one.
Fine dining at Virginia’s on the Bay (815 Trout Street), casual dining at Grumbles Seafood Co (850 Trout Street), and a spicy greeting to the day when you choose to enjoy breakfast at Restaurant San Juan (410 Cut-Off Road) are just a small sample of some of the culinary delights you will experience during your Texas coastal vacation!
