Texas SandFest, April 14 through April 16
We TOLD you the beach is the starring attraction and although your sandcastle-making skills may be limited to lopsided structures constructed just inches away from the sea, Texas SandFest may give you high hopes about what you can accomplish if you just put your mind to it! Of course, the sculptures you will see on the beach are built by sand artists that are renowned throughout the world, and the time and effort they put into each piece may have you considering sticking to the small stuff, but as you walk through a “gallery” of artwork, each more amazing than the last, you will be amazed! Especially considering they only have 3 days in which to construct fanciful pieces that have previously included Abraham Lincoln sitting in his chair, a sun-loving gorilla happily relaxing, and palaces that compare to Buckingham in size and intricacy! Also offering an amateur contest (so go ahead and strut your stuff!) and sandcastle-building lessons (learn while you play!) this exciting event is the ideal kickoff to a season filled with fun!
PalmFest, May 5 through May 6, Robert’s Point Park
Texas is a big state and we are hungry people who live here. We work hard and play even harder, and when it comes time to eat, we demand a meal that fills and comforts! Texas is also known for its barbecue (there will be no debate over which state serves the best style of barbecue, because we already know the answer is, of course, TEXAS!) and May 5 and 6, PalmFest, will prove to you just how right we are! This southern barbecue cook-off features the best barbecue in the world and gives visitors a crystal clear picture as to why there should be no other way to prepare our favorite meat dishes! Also offering live music to chow down to, this special event has become Port A’s newest obsession and will bring you yet another reason to fall in love with spring in Port Aransas!
Wings Over South Texas Air Show, May 6 through May 7, American Bank Center in Corpus Christi
This next spring event takes a little bit of driving, but if you have always had your eye on the sky and the thought of seeing the Blue Angels fly live and in person excites you, a short drive of fewer than 40 miles is worth it! Ticket prices range from $100 to absolutely free (visitors line up along the drive to see the aerobatics for free!) and we can tell you from experience that enjoying a gorgeous spring day as you watch these sleek planes do tricks and feats of unbelievable daredevilry will be one that you wish never had to end! The Blue Angels are the world’s second oldest aerobatic flight team having flown the friendly skies since 1946 and after all those years in the sky, these pilots will amaze you!
Scarlet Lady Dolphin Adventures, 440 W Cotter Avenue
This next adventure is actually one you can enjoy during any season, but there’s something about watching dolphins frolic in the sea while the sun beams down on you without being too hot! Of course, this seems like a no-brainer and it is definitely a huge part of spring break! You will see tons and rows of cars lined up to reach the sandy beaches, sometimes with wait times over an hour to get on to the beach! The secret here is to wake up early and get set up! Otherwise, you will be fighting the crowds as well as traffic, in search of your perfect beach spring break spot. You never know what Texas will offer as far as weather, so it’s best to bring a light jacket just in case it gets a little too chilly!
Learn How to Surf!
Springtime is usually the best time in Port Aransas for a great spring surf session! The water is usually green and clear while the waves range from small and crumbly to bigger and strong! The BoardHouse of Port Aransas has many rental boards to choose from as well as anything else you may need to ride some waves. The crew at the BoardHouse are some of the most helpful individuals and would never steer you in the wrong direction when it comes to surfing! There are plenty of places to get lessons around town also. It never hurts to whip out an old-school longboard but most beginners should start on a “soft-topped” board to eliminate any potential injuries! Remember to swim at your own risk and always let someone know that you’re paddling out!

This spot is great for the family and cool to go see! There are so many different species of wildlife, birds and fish you will want to stay just to see what comes out! The viewing platform has a look out with a telescope to view the place at long distances as well as see for miles! There are two known resident gators that hang out here-but don’t let that scare you away! The two have been here for years and are very cool to see in person! There are so many different bird species to see. Definitely bring a camera, sunscreen, and binoculars to enjoy this spot to the fullest. And did we mention this is one of the best places in Port Aransas to watch the sunset!?
